The Four-Year Training Programme
A comprehensive, experiential pathway that develops the personal, theoretical and practical skills of confident, ethical Gestalt therapists.
An Intensive, Experiential Training
The longest continually offered Gestalt therapy training programme in Australia, it runs a minimum of four years, from March to November each year, with six weekend workshops annually.
Four Modules, Building Year on Year
Each module develops from the last, moving from personal awareness to advanced, supervised clinical practice.
Module One
An emphasis on personal awareness, self-support and the capacity for relationship.
Module Two
Practical Gestalt skills, introduced and practised under supervision, alongside a growing body of theory.
Module Three
Supervised practice in groups and small triads with faculty members, with additional theory evenings.
Module Four
Continued supervised practice in ongoing supervision groups and triads, with theory evenings.
How the Training Works
Training takes place across six intensive weekend workshops each year, running from March to November, in a small and supportive group. The emphasis throughout is on experiential learning, personal growth and supervised practice, not just theory.
Supervision develops through the modules, from supervision of your work in the group into small ongoing supervision groups and triads, with theory seminars and additional theory evenings in the later years. It's designed to run alongside your working life.
Progression from one module to the next is by satisfactory completion of each module, rather than automatic. Places are offered to applicants on the basis of their academic background and personal readiness, with preference given to those with training in a mental-health profession.
Personal Therapy
Alongside the workshops, trainees complete a minimum of twenty individual therapy sessions each year with an Institute-recommended Gestalt therapist. This personal work is central to becoming a practitioner, and is arranged and billed separately.

A Considered Path In
We admit trainees by conversation, not by a single prerequisite. Admission is non-discriminatory, with preference given to those with mental-health training.
